Europe's first zero-CO² terminal

WienCont, operator of the container terminal in the port of Vienna, is taking a big step towards sustainability.

At Vienna's Freudenau port, the energy supply of the entire terminal was changed to hydropower. For its next move, the Austrian Energy Agency will determine the carbon footprint of the terminal. On its way to becoming Europe's first zero-CO² trimodal container terminal, an evaluation will show the amount and how today’s emissions produced upstream of the site, as well as locally produced greenhouse gases, can be neutralised.
